The Max Factor Award opens Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Stockholm Autumn/Winter 2012.
Stella McCartney is a master at making collections for the modern woman. Even if it can sound like a cliché, there are few other designers who know how to dress her. Because she is not a just a hardworking mother, looking to accomplish her carrier goals, but she also wants to look elegant and be ready for a drink, dinner or party. From the morning until night she has to look and feel strong and sophisticated.
Stella McCartney’s choice of colors for this coming fall is Klein blue, white, black, greige and I also saw a pair of pants in cerise. What about the silhouettes? They were feminine and sporty; some of the dresses even looked like scuba diving suits.
Céline announced a few weeks ago that there wouldn’t be any fashion show during the Paris fashion week because of Phoebe Philo’s pregnancy. Instead there were two small exclusive presentations; first for the top editors and later for only 50 guests.
Phoebe Philo continues to color-block, mixing white with strong colors. This was a typical Céline collection with its pieces in leather, oversized coats and too short dressed pants. The most interesting details were the zippers, scarves and the white pumps, which I am sure that we will see every editor wear next season.
Isabel Marant’s cowboy girl walked down the catwalk during her show yesterday. And maybe it is not weird that Isabel is returning to USA for inspiration, when the American girls are all dreaming about the Parisian relaxed style.
Isabel’s girl is still wearing low-hanging, skinny jeans, a cool belt and a loose top. It felt a bit predictable. We knew what Isabel Marant was going to give us this season. But I still hoped for something totally new.
Even if it is slightly boring, it doesn’t make the collection less desirable. I still want those black jeans, frilled miniskirts and jackets.
If you don’t agree with the idea that fashion is something more than just clothes and more like an art form, then you should have a look at Dries Van Noten’s fall collection. It will change your mind.
Every single look at the catwalk looked like a painting to me, like it always does when the Belgium-born designer is creating. His pieces could be hanging on the wall in your living room, but they are still wearable.
The prints (Japanese and Chinese) and the colors (orange, Klein blue, military green, turquoise, white and black with details in gold) are sensational.
Det här är inte riktigt mitt område om jag ska vara ärlig. Jag gillar när det är naturligt (kanske för att jag saknar både kunskap och intresse). Det blir aldrig mer än mascara och rouge till vardags. Ibland festar jag till det med lite ID-puder och kajal.
Jag borstar håret innan jag rufsar till och sprayar det med hårspray. Detta gäller även schampo och balsam – jag tar det jag hittar hemma. I perioder försöker jag ta lite extra vara på mig själv och köper bättre produkter som Cliniques 3-step system för hyn och produkter från Kevin Murphy till håret.
Vad har du på dig helst?
Jag tar vanligtvis på mig ett par strumpbyxor, en längre skjorta med en tröja över och ett par klumpigare skor. Jag använder mest basfärger, svart och vitt och gillar när det är enkelt men ändå funkar ”när som helst”. När det är dags för fest behåller jag samma outfit, men byter kanske ut skorna till ett par finare klackar.
Vart reser du helst?
Jag reser helst till en storstad, exempelvis London, Paris eller New York. Dock fungerar en solresa eller skidresa minst lika bra när jag tänker efter. Jag älskar att resa!
Vilka är dina favoritplatser i Stockholm?
Det här är den bästa träningsrundan: Start Odenplan – Karlbergsslott – över till Kungsholmsstrand – förbi Stadshuset och Gamla Stan till Söder Mälarstrand – Hornstull – Västerbron – Norrmälarstrand – Kungsholmsstrand och tillbaka till Odenplan. Om jag bara ska spatsera och inte är ute efter att motionera är jag inte så kräsen. Stockholm är ju så fint. Dock går jag gärna till Rörstrandsgatan och dricker kaffe om helgerna. Kvällarna spenderar jag på Riche för middag eller Berns efterföljt av dans på Kåken.
Hur är det att vara modell?
Jag tycker att det är ett roligt yrke som ger möjligheten till att se mycket. Det bästa är att få besöka nya platser och träffa människor. Många av mina vänner har jag lärt känna genom modellandet så det är jag evigt tacksam för! Den sämre sidan av yrket är de långa dagarna, skitsnacket och att mycket är så oorganiserat.
En av mina roligaste plåtningar var i Hamburg för en tysk tidning. Teamet var fantastiskt på alla sätt – trevliga, roliga och proffsiga. Vi plåtade en editorial på ett av de finaste hotellen jag sett. När vi var klara fick jag sova kvar i den stora sviten vi fotat i över natten (åkte tillbaka till Stockholm dagen efter) och njuta av roomservicen.
Emilio Pucci’s Peter Dundas made a complete turn, from the Spanish, flamenco, bohemian look (spring collection 2012) to a more simple and minimalistic one. Even the make-up was natural and clean.
The women were powerful and strong. The designer tried to make it less sexy by showing less skin but the effect of it was still elegant and feminine. For next fall he wants the Pucci woman to be able to change the black, tight dress with a slit to a comfortable pyjama, which he made completely wearable.
The amazing color combination of military green, purple, light blue, nude and black is enough to congratulate Peter to his inspiring collection.
I read that Emmanuelle Alt doesn’t seem like to freeze. Someone heard her say: “No, I don’t make snow angels — I’m very afraid of the cold!” at the Alexander Wang show in New York. Maybe the fashion industry is starting to understand what the consumers are wishing for – to be able to look elegant also during the snowy days of the winter.
Marni’s Consuelo Castiglioni solution to the cold was to design a well-made fall collection and to create interesting silhouettes with layers of different fabrics, which will definitely keep you warm. They were boxy but also rounded around the shoulders by vest in soft materials like fur. The color palette was dark with a touch of light blue, tomato red and gold, which gave the collection a modern look. The models were also wearing white stockings, which was surprising and fun, but not suitable for someone over the age of 5.
Jag jobbar som servitris på min mammas thairestaurang. Jag har dessutom börjat gå till gymmet tre gånger i veckan (än så länge håller jag nyårslöftet).
Vad har varit det roligaste jobbet du har fått som modell?
Jag och en annan modell fick åka till Oslo för att göra ett jobb för Nelly Trend, där vi fick visa deras kläder på ett event som de anordnade. Det var mitt första jobb utomlands.
Hur var det att gå visningarna under Stockholm Fashion Week? Vilken visning var din favorit?
Det var superkul. Jag älskar adrenalinet och stressen under Fashion Week. Jag gick åtta visningar och älskade alla! Om jag måste välja en skulle jag säga V Ave Shoe Repair för musiken, kläderna och stämningen.
Vad kommer du ha på dig i vår?
Jag vet att pastellfärger är inne till våren, men jag kommer nog fortsätta att bära svart och grått. Jag har saknat min skinnjacka; den kommer jag absolut att ha på mig.
Kan du tipsa om några skönhetsprodukter som du använder?
Jag är besatt av Carmex, vilket är bra mot torra läppar!
Vad ser du fram emot 2012?
Jag ser mest fram emot Thailand i juni. Min kompis ska gifta sig på Koh Samui och jag ska ner dit i tre veckor. Sen ser jag självklart fram emot att kunna åka utomlands och modella.
Bottega Veneta’s Tomas Maier has left his elegant bohemian era and has gone over to the dark side. The show during the fourth day of Milan Fashion Week opened with black and minimalistic coats and jackets but the collection also had some shades of lavender and orange. The dresses were matched with long gloves in black leather, which gave the collection an even darker and more mysterious touch.
Miuccia Prada has the power to create something ugly and change our perspective of it. She gives us always the time to digest her collections because she knows that we will start to love it. The models’ odd make-up (raccoon eyes?) doesn’t make it easier for us, but more interesting. She keeps you on a thread, makes us wanting to know more and understand it. This time she mixed black, tailored pieces with beads and large stones with graphic prints and colors such as black, purple, orange and brown. As always the accessories are playing an important role; I am sure that we will see the street style icons and editors wear those heavy shoes.
